It was so awesome getting to know Kay and Rob through the whole wedding process. We took care of everything over the phone because they live in Arizona but even over the phone I could tell that they were one amazing couple. They chose to have their wedding in the fall which I would have to say that fall is one of my all-time favorite seasons. The colors, the temperatures, pretty much everything about it I love. Everything took place at the Public Landing in Lockport. I have written about this historic wedding venue quite often but every time that I get to go back, I still get excited. They have such an amazing outdoor ceremony location and they have so many options for photos in such a close area to each other.
On the wedding day, I met up with Rob and the guys at his parent’s house in Shorewood. When I got there, all of the guys were just hanging out watching football and Rob was doing his last-minute touchups before heading out. Between photos, it was a lot of fun getting to talk to Rob’s groomsmen. Everyone was super interesting which always makes my job a lot of fun. After spending a bit with them, I headed over to the Public Landing to get some images of the girls getting ready.
I loved the energy in the bridal suite when I walked in. You could tell everyone was excited about the wedding but no one was in a rush. Sophia from Sophia Bella did an amazing job on all of the ladies makeup and she was very easy to work with. After Kay was done getting her dress on and after a few last minute touch-ups, it was time for the first look! We chose to have the first look on a gorgeous path outside next to the river and as Kay and I were walking up, the best man was sprucing up Rob and made sure he wasn’t looking.
Rob and Kay’s expression as Rob turned around was AMAZING! They both couldn’t hold back their smiles and they immediately hugged each other. It was such a nice moment to see. I talk about it all of the time but I absolutely love first looks. It just seems like there are so many amazing moments that a first look provides that are lost when you save it for the aisle. I still do like seeing the grooms face as he sees his bride coming down the aisle for the first time, but first looks are pretty awesome.
The ceremony was a lot of fun and capturing the little moments between Kay and Rob definitely kept me on my toes. After the ceremony, we spent some time around the Gaylord Building and down by the river to capture some of the evening fall light and then it was time for the reception. The speeches were very heartfelt and there were definitely quite a few tears in the crowd which was very nice to see. After dinner, we headed right into dancing and Rob and Kays first dance was incredibly romantic and it honestly seemed like they forgot everyone was there and they were just dancing together in their living room.
At the end of the reception, they had a glow stick send-off in front of the lit up Gaylord building with their friends and family. Rob and Kay, thank you so much for having me at your wedding, you two make one amazing couple and I am proud to have been part of your special day!!
