Saturday morning, I usually wake up early. I walked to the door to let my dog out. It’s cold, the kind of cold where even my dog decides just to do her business and she’s already waiting at the door. I get dressed and head out, at 6 am it’s -6 and that’s not including wind chill! Hello, midwest weather!! We were scheduled to have Linda and Garretts couples session at 10:00 but I know if we were to do it then that it was going to be one short session. Looking at the weather, we decided to reschedule for the evening and I am so glad that we did!
I met up with Linda and Garrett in Downtown Naperville and we started at the classic covered bridge. After getting to know them a bit and trying out a few spots, it was still pretty cold out so we decided to stop at Sparrow Coffee to warm up. While there, I asked to see if it would be alright to do some photos there and the staff said no problem. I have been wanting to shoot in a coffee shop for a while and Sparrow was at the top of the list! I loved using some of the rustic industrial features of Sparrow, they all added such a nice visual element to the photos. Like the amazing handwritten menu or the warm glow of the Eddison bulbs, they definitely provided a style that I am into.
After Sparrow, the snow started coming down and it was AMAZING!! It added so much to the images and I am so glad that we waited until the evening! We worked a few spots around The Waterstreet District and then headed to my favorite location of the day and that’s the Nichols Library! I have always wanted to shoot in a library as well, two bucket list spots in one session! It’s the whole atmosphere of the library and the style that I thought was so amazing and Linda and Garrett absolutely nailed the poses! I captured some of my favorite images in a while at the library and I am very excited to share them.
After the library, the sun was getting low and we were losing our light and I knew that we had time for one more location. Whenever I walk in Downtown Naperville, this one spot stands out to me every time. It’s something with the composition and how the lead in lines takes your eye through the image and it takes on a whole different look in the winter. The little snowflakes in Linda and Garrett’s hair was a really nice touch too. I had an incredible time getting to know these two and having the chance to spend some of our Saturday in the snow together!
