Well, the reason I feel so strongly about this small dress boutique is because my wife got her dress there and she looked amazing! She had nothing but great things to say about how the staff treated her there and every time we drive by there, she still lights up with a smile and says, “That’s where I got my dress!” and then we talk about how much fun we had on our wedding day for the next 45 minutes.

Cathys Sweet Creations

One thing that I have had a lot of is wedding cake and I know my cake! Recently I was photographing a Plainfield Wedding and I had a slice of cake after dinner and I was blown away. The flavor was unbelievable and it was so moist and perfectly sweet! Later I asked the bride and groom where they got their cake from and they said with a giant smile, Cathys Sweet Creations in downtown Plainfield. Established in summer of 2005, our bakery specializes in creatively-designed wedding cakes, anniversary cakes, birthday cakes, and specialty cakes. Our focus is in 3 dimensional, 2 dimensional, tiered, topsy turvy, as well as sheet and round cakes for all occasions. Our bakery offers custom cookie shapes, cupcakes, cupcake cakes, morning pastries and afternoon snacks.We serve the Plainfield, Naperville, Joliet, and surrounding areas.

Also when I was looking around on their site, I found that they offer their famous Atomic Cake.

Starting from the bottom up, a layer of our chocolate cake topped with yummy fudge, a layer of fresh bananas and here comes the bavarian cream to cover those bananas, and then more cake. A second banana-flavored cake is added with fresh strawberry preserves and a gob of whip cream. And for the top layer our fabulous yellow cake and the gobs of whip cream icing to hold all that goodness together.

From tasting some of their other cake, I couldn’t imagine what their Atomic Cake tastes like! I hope I come across one at a wedding soon!

The Loft Hair Salon

Your hair is another important factor of the wedding day and my wife personally raves about this place. It’s smaller in size but definitely does not lack talent. The Loft opened its doors for the first time on August 2, 2011 and have not stopped impressing their clients since. Whenever my wife comes back from getting her hair done here, she is smiling from ear to ear and can’t help stopping at every mirror in our house! Here’s what their website has to say.

Sovereign

I can’t recommend this place enough! If you’re looking for a spot to take your bridesmaids for a cocktail or have a night out with your groomsmen for some craft beer, then this is the spot for you. I eat here on a regular basis and have never been disappointed. The staff are always friendly and always treat you like you have been friends since high school. This is how the Chicago Tribune describes them.

The owners say they plan to open by mid-September and will source their ingredients from area farms and other providers, resulting in a quality and variety of food offerings they hope will entice area diners.Farm to fork means “keeping it natural and local and sustainable,” said Dale Lewis, Sovereign’s creative director and a veteran restaurateur. “Farm to fork to us means that you’re using locally sourced ingredients, fresh ingredients, we won’t have a freezer, we won’t have a microwave, so everything is prepped fresh, just like you would cook for your family at home.”

The idea to open such a restaurant in Plainfield came to Lewis, Raphael Gomez, Jessica Watson and head chef Dave Donohue after seeing that the suburbs largely lacked such options.

“You could find it in the city, but out here in the ‘burbs, for some reason, it never happens,” Lewis said.

Donohue said customers will see a “significantly higher quality” of food at Sovereign due to the fact that everything will be bought locally.

The style of the restaurant itself is awesome and kind of has a rustic feel to it with really amazing wooden tables and most things having some kind of patina to them. I was planning on listing some of my favorites but after looking at the menu I couldn’t pick just a few.

It seems that we meet with group of people here whenever we need a cool spot with good food. Their shareable plates are amazing and if you get a few cocktails to go along with them, you and your bridal party will have a fantastic time here.
